Patch: What contribution(s) do you believe your business will make to the city?Johnson: I think it's important to have a vibrant local retail market that reflects and supports what's unique about Santa Monica. This city has so much to offer, and we're not just another outpost for national chains. People come from around the world to walk on our beaches, feel our ocean breezes and shop in Santa Monica. I think it's important to show them something unique and local that reflects the special California lifestyle that we have perfected!
Patch: Why should Santa Monicans frequent your business?Johnson: Our bamboo Eco-Knits are friendly to the environment, and the store is locally owned. I think it's important to support local retail districts like Montana Avenue. But the main reason is the clothes. I think the bamboo Eco-Knits are truly unique and beautiful. They wear so well, the colors are beautiful, and they're so versatile. Please stop by!Lt. Charles Cochran of the Commander Vice and Narcotics Division said the intellectual property being seized mostly consisted of counterfeit clothing including brands such as North Face, Nike, and Timberland. The stores would allegedly sell the counterfeit name brands for a much cheaper price, said Lt. Cochran.
Lt. Cochran said intellectual property crime can involve a spectrum of piracy and counterfeiting of digital media, luxury clothing, and manufactured goods. These counterfeit goods endanger the community through the sale and purchase of products that have not been properly inspected and are misleadingly labeled as the legitimate manufacturers product, Lt. Cochran said.
